Considering Adoption?
If you are considering adopting, there are many excellent agencies to choose from. LSS and CHSFS were located close to us and are incredible agencies to work with. However, before picking an agency, there are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself before you begin the process. Domestic adoption works for some families, while foster parenting or international adoption works for others. Along with figuring out what option works best for your family, it will be good for you to discuss some of these key questions to help you pick a program that fits your family the best:
Does the age of the child matter for your family's situation? Does your family have the ability to care for a child with special needs? If adopting a child with a different cultural background, are you willing to embrace their culture as part of your family? Just remember that every couple needs to do what's best for their own family and circumstances. Where there is great joy in adopting, I don’t want to minimize the fact that it can be a hard road as well. While programs are pretty reliable, every story and situation is different. Wait time can be frustrating and test your patience (the Lord knows my patience was tested many, many times), roadblocks and hurdles still happen in very dependable programs, and your emotions will constantly jump from sadness, to joy, to frustration, to excitement. Not to mention the constant need to remind yourself to respond gracefully when other people make uneducated comments throughout your adoption journey. All stories are different, but if you are considering adoption, please check out the helpful resources below. |
